We are recruiting an ASO5 Senior Finance Officer for a State Government department on a short-term, 3-month contract to lead budget management and stakeholder accountability. The role is available immediately.
The Senior Finance Officer is responsible for overseeing rigorous budget management and ensuring financial accountability across the organisation. This role serves as a critical strategic liaison between the Finance department and key organisational stakeholders, ensuring that financial objectives are seamlessly aligned with operational activities. The successful candidate will possess a high degree of technical proficiency in budgetary control and the professional diplomacy required to manage complex cross-functional relationships.
Financial Planning & Budgeting: Direct the formulation of departmental budgets and lead the periodic forecasting process. Monitor performance against targets and provide detailed variance analysis to senior leadership to ensure financial accountability.
Strategic Stakeholder Management: Serve as a primary financial advisor to non-finance department heads. Facilitate regular reviews to discuss financial performance, resource allocation, and adherence to internal and statutory fiscal policies.
Management Reporting: Synthesise complex budgetary data into concise, executive-level reports. Ensure that all financial reporting is accurate, timely, and provides a clear narrative of the organisation’s financial position.
Operational Oversight: Evaluate existing financial workflows and implement enhancements to improve accuracy, transparency, and departmental efficiency. Ensure all activities comply with relevant financial regulations.
Experience: A minimum of 5 years of experience in corporate or public sector finance, with a specific emphasis on budgetary control and stakeholder engagement.
Technical Proficiency: Advanced expertise in Excel, integrated ERP systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle, or Microsoft Dynamics).
Communication Excellence: Demonstrated ability to communicate complex financial concepts clearly and persuasively to stakeholders at all levels.
Education: A Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, or Economics is required. CA/CPA is desirable.
Competencies: Exceptional attention to detail, strong ethical judgment, and the ability of managing multiple priorities.
